Chinese Houses or Colinsia heterophylla is a flowering plant native to California and Baja California. It blooms from mid spring to early summer. Like other species in the genus Collinsia, which also includes the blue-eyed Marys, it gets its name from its towers of inflorescences of decreasing diameter, which give the plants in full flower a certain resemblance to a pagoda. Collinsia plants appreciates rich, moist soil and full sun to partial shade. Start the Chinese Houses seeds either in the spring or fall, and simply scatter the wildflower seeds on loosened, weed free soil and then compress the seeds into the dirt. Do not cover these wild flower seeds. Collinsia is easy to grow from flower seeds, and it is known to self-sow continuing the display for each season.
